Our Tagxedo picture is a flower to illustrate how uploading has brought new life and promise to the online community. Vocabulary: E-Commerce- The industry of conducting business online or over other connected electronic devices.
Collaboration- The action of brainstorming with a group of people to achieve a common goal. This is something that the Internet has provided “Geeks” to improve the development and creation of many things, including the Internet itself.
Uploading- Transferring something that you have created or own the rights to (in theory) to the Internet for possible public consumption. This is essentially what the Internet is all about.
Open Source- Computer software for which the source code is readily available. This has allowed for collaboration and wide spread distribution to occur.
Blogging- A Web site on which an individual or group of users state their opinions or information about various topics.This has changed the availability and speed of information, news, and opinions.
Summary: Flattener #4 is "uploading." He describes this tool that's is being used to flatten the world as "you can now produce really complex things, as an individual or as part of a community, with so much less hierarchy and so much less money than ever before." This means that since so many more people can upload their ideas, less disparsity is seen between the collaborators because their power and money is no longer needed as much to create and develop ideas for consumption. Friedman focused on three main forms of uploading. These were community-developed software, Wikipedia, and blogging/ podcasting. These forms of uploading have helped eliminate the hierarchy, which has aided in flattening our world. Current Event:Click In the article titled "Flattening the Old World" by Richard Morgan and Aaron Rutkoff, the authors illistrate the decline of hierarchy in corporate America. This plays into our flatterner of "uploading" by showing that uploading has allowed more employees to be on a even footing with thier co-workers. Along with this decline in hierarchy is the way in which business men present themselves, as outlined in the article as such, "Not only would a skyscraper penthouse office be uncool" for a New York tech titan, Mr. Mayer argued, "it would be untenable." Uploading has provided a new and changing philosophy in how business is done in corporations, going from having stuffy offices to just meating at a coffee house and online. Our Response: I think that what these guys are saying about the world of tech being on a more even playing field, because of the development of apps and the use of them as well, is cool because everyone has the same opportunities even if they don't know the same people that the more successful people do. In the older days it was all about who you know. Now with the development of these apps and other technological advances you can upload something and have the same opportunity to do something awesome as the guy next to you.
